MORRIS - The Right Thing
It’s a newcomer album- right! This album ”The Right Thing”
is done by a newcomer - at least in this constellation. Wayne Morris, Martin Engler
and Carl Fornia know each other since the mid 90’, they had a “constant”
on and off work relationship until the chemistry was right and then finally MORRIS
was formed.
Let’s go back a few years: the singer-songwriter and guitar player of
this trio, Wayne Morris, came to Hamburg in the mid 90’. His publishing
company EMI Music Publishing connected then Morris with Martin Engler (drums)
and Carl Fornia (bass). Wayne produced at first their band “Wild Thing”
for Virgin Records until Wayne and Martin actually became a brand name as a
songwriter duo in the music business.
Meanwhile Wayne worked with his own material with different other producers,
but never found “the right thing”. But Wayne and Martin knew that
their songs had a great potential and it took them a while to figure out that
they had the “best thing” right in front of them, their conclusion
was, to add Carl Fornia and form the Band “MORRIS” in 2003.
That summer in 2003 the time had come, when Wayne found himself back in the
studio full of new ideas, with drummer Martin at his side, who joined him after
his ventures in harder fields, as the producer of their project. Financed by
the Label Tantrix Music they recorded in such studios like, Gaga Studios, Home
Studios, which they earned themselves an intern predicat “Big Cinema”
for their Album
“Morris” took a lot of effort in doing the real thing for “The
Right Thing” the recorded without the usual overdubs, no samples, they
even used a real Hammond Organ, the drum loops are live recorded, the pedal-steel
guitar and the harmonica - all that is REAL. That always was the singer’s
biggest demand. ”We wanted the album to sound live”. It was such
an event for everybody who took part in this production.
You will find 12 tracks on “The Right Thing”. The band’s
personal favourites, like Wayne loves Coldplay and T-Rex, Carl adores Bush and
Martin is a huge Tommy-Lee Fan (and loves to drum loud and hard) is surely a
reason for the up-tempo tracks, the ballads and the singer-songwriter influences
who melt into such a union on this album. The lyrics are leading us into Wayne’s
musical history. In the age of 15 Wayne put his first band in North Wales together,
called the “T-Set”. The band toured through England and Wales (by
the way in some of the obscure “working men’s club’s”)
and got himself some credibility as an live musician, followed by international
tour offers, which brought him to New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Barbados
and Mauritius.
This Band is so very special, because of an incredible musical experience,
the sum out of talent times 3, a chills you to your bones voice, (a right under
your skin voice) deep emotions, groove and rock ‘n’ roll - all that
makes “The Right Thing” an extraordinary debut album.
Your first impression of this album you can get with the single release “Pray”
available in Germany in the end of March. If you ask Morris about their ambitions
and goals, the answer is ”we just wanna go out and play!” This year
the band is already scheduled for two tours.
